The plotline definitely is interesting, i can understand Joey's need to leave the glittery falseness of the indulgent Laguna Beach elite. Going to Africa provides the contrast needed to the give the story interest and drama, hopefully there his mentors provide the nectar needed to quench his rebellious thirst.
