This is a question for the hackers?

Does anyone out there know what kind of attack was put on Sony, or when the whole Wikileaks and Bank of America attacks were going on. I remember, you couldn't access Wikileaks for a while because they bombarded the website basically overloading the servers. Anyone know what type of attacks those were or names of computer attacks that hurt website. Just curious. Also, any info on them would be great.
