Late nineties pop: why do YOU think it died the way it did?
Every generation has their "Kiddie Pop", but the very young teens who are listening to it think it's a cataclysmic revolution in music. Brit and the "boy bands" appeared at a time when their young listeners enjoyed a great economy and tons of money to spend on music (hence the Guinness records). There were other genres at the time, but no huge, single group of listeners were financially supporting them; The purchases were spread thinner. Also, Brit, etc. weren't "everywhere"...You just liked them so were paying attention. I hardly noticed as did my older kids who were listening to neo-alternative, Punk, Rap and ???? There is Kiddie Pop and there are Clics for every set of time, and the Kiddie Pop will just disappear because it never was good to begin with...Boy Bands-Gone, but Justin Timberlake just keeps getting better because he's a Clic. Who hasn't heard "Stairway to Heaven" ? Who HAS heard "Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love in my Tummy" ?LOL-Not a Clic/kiddie pop. The Beatles and Paul Revere and the Raiders were equally popular for quite a spell. But at some point, Kiddie Pop will suddenly vanish, and the clical artists from the same time period are remembered or move forward....It's like what you did as you aged and your tastes evolved. LOL Just realized that the "Yummy" song has been used for some recent commercial...Can you believe it would come on the radio and we young teens would yell, "Turn it up"! (embarring
